Slurry Oil

General Characteristics

Slurry Oil is a high-boiling, aromatic residue from distillation of products of fluid catalytic cracking of crude oil residues. The FCC feed is a residue from crude oil atmospheric distillation (formerly called heavy fuel). This residue is cracked in the FCC to form a wide range of products from gases to petrols and diesel fuel components.

Slurry, which is a residue from cracking, is a concentrate of heavy aromatic hydrocarbons. It contains catalyst ash residues and dust particles in the amount up to approx 0.2% and approx 1%-1.5% of Sulphur. Density ranges from 1050 to 1150 kg/m3 and it has high viscosity under normal temperature. Pumping is possible only at higher temperatures over 40°C.

Usage

The usage includes heavy fuel oil (heating plants, cement plants, power stations), marine fuel oil, and production of soot by thermal cracking.

Packing, storage, transport

Fuel oil is supplied in suitable tank rail cars equipped with heating coils. The applicable laws must be observed when storing, transporting and handling fuel oils. (See the Safety Sheet)

The product is classified as hazardous according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 CLP.
